Things need to be made fit people and not that other way around! -- that's colleenification
I have videos on the amazing AWP cutting board (mention my name if you call them!) and no matter if you are tall, average or not tall give my high five project a look.
and thank you for visiting!

Hello -
Just saw your video on http://www.thetallstreetjournal.com/. I just came across that site today. Very cool. I am 7'2" and know very well the daily issues you are referring too. I like the idea of that chopping table. Thought you might find this site interesting, in case you have never seen it. http://tallpaulstallmall.com/

I can't wait to see how Trek has tackled the special bicycle frame needs of people with altitude!
My husband is shorter than Colleen but he also has one of the AWP raised cutting boards. It is wonderful to see Steve not stooped, and to have him creating dishes now such as:
http://tingilinde.typepad.com/starstuff/2009/12/a-bi-more-on-colleenifying-.html
which is a brussels sprouts dish with balsamic vinegar, walnuts and pecans. (BTW, we get our nuts in bulk online from Sunnyland Farms.) Steve recipe is going over even with people who normally don't like brussels sprouts and we've heard people who love them pronounce it to be their new favorite recipe.
We wound up permanently storing our food processor blades unobtrusively under the AWP cutting table, and even though I am only 5'7" I find that his cutting surface is perfect for me for when I need to get a very tiny mince. Otherwise, I use a surface that is at a lower height which works for me for chopping.
I've experimented with what it feels like for short people and tall people to use the normal counters heights (that are perfect for 5'4"). When I placed myself lower as with someone short like my younger sister there was nasty pain in my neck and my shoulders. Then when I used a short surface as if I were tall I found found that I had bad pain in my mid-back, lower back, and some also in my neck.
Obviously, having a cutting/work surface at the right height protects the back, removes a painful detraction from the pleasures of cutting and baking, and probably is just plain healthy.
Since men are more likely than women to not cook I wonder how many of them might find themselves enjoying the kitchen if back pain could be eliminated and how many marriages may benefit from cutting boards and work surfaces that suit all the workers in the family. Women are also taller in my generation than the one before when standardization for countertops happened and I wonder how many women would enjoy cooking more if they found that a discomfort which they'd considered normal could be eliminated.
Also, I noticed that AWP is making work surface solutions for people who are shorter, too, and have written to my 4'10" sister about that.
These make wonderful items not only for oneself but for gifts. Take it from someone who has one in the kitchen.

Never really thought that, in the kitchen the problems a tall person would have.

I have one of these. Since I am in Europe I had one made here. Jheri is not as tall as Colleen, but much taller than my kitchen counter works for. It makes such a huge difference in comfort!
If you have height you need one of these. The one Colleen has is much more sturdy looking than mine.
